Understanding and living with dementia
A support group for family and friends. It allows them to ask questions, share experiences and find information and get support.
We regularly hold the Glenfairn Visitors Community Café, where staff, residents and their families and friends can come together to better understand the illness, share their experience and develop strategies to help with coping with dementia.
The café is hosted by our activities girls and training manager. It’s an informal meeting intended to support family and friends through their loved ones’ dementia journey. Based on sharing of experiences, discussing concerns etc. with a cake and cuppa of course!
We offer places on our dementia training courses to family and friends as a way of informing and supporting.
Those who have attended have found it beneficial and it helps to facilitate good communication between residents, staff and visitors.
Our staff receive regular training and updates on dementia and best practice in its management. We use a number of activity tools such as reminiscence and music to keep residents engaged and active.
Residents worked with a local artist to create this wonderful mural depicting memories from around Ayr.
“Dad has improved since coming here. He is eating and drinking much better and loves meal times.”
“The service is amazing. The staff are excellent and are very patient. My mother loves it here.”
